2014 ASPCA Grant Received

December 2014

We had our fields sprayed for weed control the beginning of October.  The label stated only to take animals off until dried and then it would be okay to put them back on...the salesman stated that it was all-natural, perfectly safe, turn the horses out same day (once dried) etc.  We had the perfect day to spray, a neighbor offered to spray for us with his large tractor boom sprayer.

Just to be sure I called the company to see if it migh be advisable to leave horses off 24-48 hrs or something....when I called they said NO GRAZING of any sort for 8 weeks!  You can imagine our panic and the resulting frenzy of figuring out where to pasture/keep all our horses, donkey and goat for a minimum of 8 weeks!  Needless to say we burned through ALL our winter hay within 5 weeks!

Step in the ASPCA!  They reviewed our request for some emergency hay funds and were very prompt to send us a grant that allowed us to purchase hay!  Going "into" winter it can be difficult to find ANY hay...good hay even harder and the price is like buying gold!
